Badnarik, Cobb Campaigns Raise Money for Full Ohio Presidential Recount

Published on November 16, 2004, by in General.

Ohio will have a full recount of all Presidential votes, thanks to Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian Party and David Cobb of the Green Party. The two Presidential candidates raised the required $150,000 fee to order the recount.

Badnarik and Cobb said they aren’t trying to overturn President Bush’s 136,000-vote victory in Ohio, but just want to ensure that all votes were counted properly in the face of concerns about Election Day irregularities.

The actual cost of the recount to county election boards will be about $1.5 million.

In New Hampshire, the Ralph Nader campaign has requested and paid for a hand recount in 11 wards where the results seemed anomalous in their support for President Bush and where the votes were counted on optical scan machines – primarily the Diebold AccuVote Machine.

  1. the Ohio recount is a good idea. I would like to know if Third Party votes are being reported and counted accurately.

I wonder why Ohio rather than Pennsylvania or Wisconsin. Cobb was not even on the ballot in Ohio. Is he just checking to make sure write ins were counted fairly? It also seems odd that Cobb was able to raise this much money so quickly given how little he raised during the campaign. Hmmm…

The reasons as to why the Libertarian and Green Party have asked for count is ultimatlely irrelevant. An accurate count should be the ultimate priority especially when so much human, economic, and moral treausure is being squandered in the name of free elections in Iraq.

In response to John’s question, Cobb and Badnarik probably raised the money so quickly because Kerry supporters are also eager to have a recount. This is not the same as fund-raising for their campaign.
