Now is the Time to Ask State Legislators to Introduce Ballot Access Reform Bills

August 28th, 2006

Next year, almost every state legislature will be meeting. It is very common for state legislators to decide which bills they will introduce, during the last few months of even-numbered years. If you live in a state with faulty election laws, and you hope to persuade your state legislature to improve them, now is the time to ask legislators to sponsor such bills. Groups are already working on this project (for ballot access improvements) in California, Georgia, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and perhaps other states.

After extensive Googling, I only found groups concerned about shortcomings of the electronic voting machines. Which organiation is trying to get fairer ballot access in California?

Also, the URL for ‘Web White and Blue’ seems to have expired. There is an archival link at archival web white and blue:

I will try and contact ND state legislators about allowing Independent candidates in partisan elections to pick a brief, political party designation, as they are allowed to do so for President.

I have had no luck in getting any interest in a statewide amendment or ballot question on the ballot. The ND Lib seems to have vanished. The ND Greens do not return my emails.

I keep on the look out for bills in MN, where I live and vote. We technically have three major parties, and the Greens may make that four after this election cycle.

If you know anyone in ND that is interested in pushing for a bill or amendment on ballot access law, please have them email me.
