Idaho Bill for Registration by Party Loses

Published on March 30, 2007, by in General.

On March 30, the Idaho Senate defeated S1244, which would have launched a system in which voters register into political parties. Information about how many Senators voted for or against isn’t available yet.

  1. This is interesting, since last year’s Idaho Republican Convention voted in favor of party registration by a large margin.

The next best idea would be to change the state from “open primary, private choice” to “open primary, public record (or declaration).”

Since Washington state has been using “open primary, private choice,” the folks there have called it the “Montana system.” I’ve never understood why they don’t call it the “Idaho system,” since WA and Idaho border each other.
