Article on “Independent” Reality TV Show and Campaign Finance Laws
July 15th, 2007“The Politico” posted an article on July 14 about a new reality TV show “Independent” and the possibility that the show’s plan to give $1,000,000 to the winning potential presidential candidate would be illegal. The article is here. The article should have mentioned that the U.S. Supreme Court said in McConnell v FEC that minor party and independent candidates may file an “as-applied” challenge to the parts of the McCain-Feingold law that appear to injure new parties and independent candidates.

It is time for Independent Candidates that go beyond single issues – Independents are the entrepreneurs of politics.
