Kennedy is a possible candidate next year for the U. S. Senate seat now held by Mary Landrieu. Kennedy ran in the nonpartisan 2004 Senate race, which David Vitter won without a runoff. Louisiana, of course, is restoring party primaries for its congressional elections, starting in 2008. Louisiana will also elect its parish (county) officials on October 20, with runoffs later where needed.
