On September 4, Missouri held a special election to fill the vacancy in the 23rd State Senate district. The results: Republican Tom Dempsey 56.20%; Democrat Ed Appelbaum 43.80%. When this seat has last been filled, in November 2004, the results had been: Republican 57.96%; Democratic 42.04%.
