Mississippi's state and county elections are exactly two days away, as are Kentucky's state elections. And Louisiana's state and parish runoffs are exactly 13 days away.

It appears that the Republicans will win all of Mississippi's statewide offices except attorney general.

The race for Mississippi's agriculture commissioner is between the Democratic, Republican, and Constitution Party nominees. To win a statewide office, a candidate must (1) get 50%-plus of the vote, AND (2) carry at least 62 of the 122 House districts. Otherwise, the House chooses between the top two candidates in January.

When no candidate has received a majority, what has usually happened is that the second-place finisher has conceded and urged the House to elect the first-place finisher. This, e.g., is what occurred in the lieutenant governor's races of 1991 and 1995.
