November 30th, 2007Pennsylvania Representative Kerry Benninghoff has been seriously considering introducing a bill to let candidates get on ballots by paying a filing fee, instead of submitting a mandatory petition. Louisiana has for years given all candidates the option of qualifying either by petition or by paying a fee. The amount of the fee– like the number of petition signatures– varies from office to office.

Florida is another state that has abolished mandatory ballot access petitions (except for independent presidential candidates) in favor of fees, for both primary and general election ballot access.

Here’s an idea, let the “Minor Parties” & Independents use the same set of filing requirements as the Republicratic Duopoly.

Louisiana does. ALL candidates there may qualify either by petition or by paying a fee. According to comment #3 above, Florida does too.
