On-Line Presidential Primary Poll Features 3 Sets of Presidential Primaries

Jim Mangia and Linda Curtis have set up an on-line presidential primary poll which includes the Democratic, Republican and Green presidential primaries. It is at this link.

Even though the Libertarian Party is now on the ballot in more states than the Green Party, the Green Party is entitled to more presidential primaries than the Libertarian Party, or any other third party. If Ralph Nader does declare for the Green Party presidential nomination, the Green Party presidential primaries, featuring a contest between Nader and Cynthia McKinney (plus others who aren’t as famous) will be exciting enough to merit mainstream media attention. Thus it is not unreasonable for the Mangia-Curtis poll to feature just three parties. Mangia and Curtis are associated with the Committee for a Unified Independent Party, also known as Independent Voting.

  2. I think excluding the Libertarians and other legitimate third parties is a major oversight. Also, including only the four Green Party candidates that are on the ballot in Illinois is unnecessarily narrow. However – I applaud their intentions! I agree that a Nader – McKinney GP primary would draw some attention.

    For “educational purposes only” we put up an Instant Run-off / Ranked Choice Poll on our site through DemoChoice.org. DemoChoice does a great job of educating and demonstrating how IRV or ranked choice voting works.

    The poll we put up includes 8 Republicans, 8 Democrats, 7 Greens, 4 Libertarians, 2 Constitution Party candidates, 1 Socialist, and Mike Bloomberg. I wanted to include the other 8 Libertarians running for President but I was cut off at 32 candidates. Please give it a try! With 126 ballots cast so far, Cynthia McKinney leads in first round votes with 16, but she is defeated in the final round by Fred Thompson of all people after Ron Paul and John Edwards are eliminated. This will stay up throughout December, and you can vote on the poll every day if you want.

  4. My guess is the answer to that question ins that the poll is a “primary” poll; it’s not measuring what people will do in the general election.
