Ohio Constitution Party Submits Petition for Attorney General Special Election

Ohio is holding a special election in November 2008 for Attorney General. Normally this office is only on the ballot in mid-term years. But because the incumbent resigned last month, a special election is being held. State law says that independent candidates need 750 signatures in special elections. The only independent who turned in a petition by the May 27 deadline is Robert Owens, chair of the Ohio Constitution Party. He is an attorney. Since he used the independent procedure, the ballot will not list his party name, just “other-party candidate.” The Secretary of State’s office says the petition will have been checked by June 10. UPDATE: Owens won’t have any label on the ballot. He could have chosen to have either “no-party candidate”, “other-party candidate”, or just nothing, and he chose the latter.

  1. Robert Owens will be a great candidate! They turned in about 1,300 signatures I’m told, so we will keep our fingers crossed. You can count on a first rate campaign if he makes the ballot.

  2. Best Wishes to Bob and the Constitutionalists! The independents [OHVIA], greens, reformers [Virginia Brooks] and Libs were all personally notified. I guess we all know whom has a current ‘real’ third party in Ohio!

  3. Dispatch.com (the Columbus Dispatch web site) reported only that he’s registered as a Republican.

  4. Mr. Wolfe,

We have no ballot-qualified parties other than the Ds and Rs, so it is likely he registered as an R simply to vote in the primary. Registration is required to vote a partisan ballot in the Ohio primaries.

  5. I knew we could do it!!!
Thanks goes out to EVERYONE that got involved.
We had help from the Ron Paul MeetUp groups, as well as members of the America First Party, Libertarian Party, Reform Party, Constitution Party, Republican Party, the John Birch Society, and I even know of some Democrats who helped pull this off in less than a week. Thanks to each and every one of you, and anyone I may have left out.
It just goes to show that we all understand we are fighting for a common cause…LIBERTY.
And when we stand together, WE hold the power, as we are obligated to do so, according to the United States constitution.
We all know it. And those powers we are fighting against now know it as well. And what I have to say to them is this…
LIKE IT OR NOT…HERE WE COME!!!
    WE…WILL…NOT…STOP!!!
