Colorado Presidential Ballot

Colorado has five ballot-qualified parties, and their presidential nominees go on the November ballot automatically. Also, Colorado lets the presidential nominees of unqualified parties, and also independent presidential candidates, get on the ballot by paying $500 and submitting a list of presidential elector candidates. So far, the only presidential candidate who has filed under that procedure is Gene Amondson of the Prohibition Party. The deadline is June 17. Amondson is also already on the ballot in Florida.

Colorado has the 4th earliest deadline in the nation for independent presidential candidates to get on the ballot. The only states that are earlier are Texas, Arizona and North Carolina. No one qualified by petition in Texas this year for president, and only Ralph Nader submitted an independent petition in Arizona. No independent presidential candidate is expected to qualify in North Carolina.

  1. Gene Amondson is already doing better than the Prohibition Party presidental canidates have done in years. That’s probably because Dodge died.

Here’s an email that I recieved from Jim Hedges regarding Prohibition Party ballot access.

“There is hardly any campaigning going on (lack of money), other than ballot access work. So far, we have filed in Florida and Colorado, Louisiana is ready to file, and we are working in Arkansas. We may also get on in Mississippi, possibly in Illinois.
Because of a court order last August, the vice-presidential candidate will be Leroy Pletten in Florida, Louisiana, and Arkansas; Howard Lydick in Colorado. Which one appears in other states depends on who does the work/pays the contractor in other states.
It’s all “Prohibition Party,” but with variations from state-to-state.
If we can get on in 5 states, that would be our best since 1984; if we can get 6 states, that would be our best since 1968. It’s not that we’re more popular now, or richer now — we have new management and are better focused than we have been for many years.

  2. Prohibition is on in FL?!? That’s pretty impressive by their recent performances, how easy/difficult is access there?
