Actually, we’ve been in a court fight with the FEC since early 2004. It was just concluded in February. They’re trying to back-bill us for repayment of public money we don’t really owe them. We even have a court decision at our disposal which demonstrated the correctness of our position about the disposition of the disputed sums, but sometimes facts don’t matter in courts.

The FEC wouldn’t discuss their “audit” with us when underway, but then later sent the bill based on their incomplete and inadequate findings. Since then, we also have been hit with an Injunction which limits our fund-raising out of the National Committee to repayment of their billed judgment.

All this is decidedly wrong, but is easily explained by the fact that we ended up with the Northern District of Florida as our venue – a terribly hostile place. The judge there rubber-stamped everything the FEC wanted and the decisions there were that of a kangaroo court setting.

As far as I’m concerned, the matter isn’t finished. Injustice is injustice no matter how you slice it.

Those who wrote the report you referred to are entirely wrong. I’ll have to see the item first, but I believe it to be a smear-by-misinformation.

At one time many months ago, Daniel Imperato was a guest on a phone-conference call with a number of RP’s leadership. He had expressed an interest in the RP nomination, but he was unknown to us. So, we listened to his pitch. In less than 60 seconds he infuriated those there assembled to hear him, and pegged himself as anything but a candidate to take seriously. We haven’t heard from him since that time, nor has anyone made mention of him again.

Known announced candidates are Frank McEnulty and Ted Weill.
