Trevor Lyman Works for 6-Candidate Presidential Debate
September 28th, 2008Trevor Lyman, the person who organized the Ron Paul money bombs, has launched an effort to create a six-person presidential debate in New York city in October. The six candidates would be the six individuals who are on the ballot in states containing a majority of the electoral college: Chuck Baldwin, Bob Barr, John McCain, Cynthia McKinney, Ralph Nader, and Barack Obama. Lyman will go ahead if he gets financial contributions (in any amount) from at least 10,000 individuals. He already has pledges from 702 individuals. The pledges would go toward the cost of holding the event, not to the candidates’ campaigns.
It is most unlikely that either Barack Obama or John McCain would participate, since they have presumably already signed a contract with the Commission on Presidential Debates, promising that they would not participate in any other general election presidential debates.
For more information, go here, to Lyman’s webpage, thirdpartyticket.com.

McBama signed a contract saying they would not participate in any other debates? I wonder if there was something in that contract that said they would be the only two in the debates.

I wonder if the Commission on Presidential Debates is violating antitrust/unfair competition laws with a contract that limits its participants to its debates.
There are other competing debates (e.g., Google/YouTube).

The Google/YouTube debate idea is dead.

I believe the Commission on Presidential Debates is violating the conditions of its tax-exempt status, and I have created a web page about this:

Nader is supporting a third party debate this year; I believe he did not in 2004.

Did they make the debate contract public yet, or is it only a guess that they are “promising that they would not participate in any other general election presidential debates”?

See this Nader video it’s very funny. He has a good sense of humor.

The debate must go ahead! All the candidates that have any chance of winning should be the enterence criteria of any of the debates no matter who hostes them. If the McBamas’ of the world bow out of a 6 party debate is shows thier fear. It would be a great media spectical talking about how week they must be that they fear they could loose to who would otherwise be weeker then either of them. It could also expose on a much grander scale the monopoly manipulation of the two party system to the American People. People in America are waking up at an accelerated pace and evey time the informed can infues more Honesty and Freedom into the system the better off we will all be.

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. LET THEM ALL DEBATE. AFTER WATCHING MCCAIN AND OBAMA I WOULD LIKE SOME REAL CLEAR ANSWERS TO ALL QUESTIONS NOT BS.

Revolution Broadcasting will be hosting a third party debate on Oct. 9 from 8 – 11 pm Central time . So far Baldwin and McKinney have confirmed that they will appear.

I think they are going about this the wrong way. We need to get CNN/MSNBC/FOX News to commit to carry a third party debate with invites to McBama. If they do, they’ll have to promote it, which will end up giving more coverage to the 3rd party candidates, and would be more likely to get McBama to participate.

While individually all 4 ALTERNATE candidates are on
enough ballots to challenge for well over 300 Electoral
Votes, it would have made a better arguement if they
collectively were on enough ballots so that a majority
of the Country (270+ Electoral votes) would have all
6 names on their ballot in November. In that situation
it would be more difficult to deny that they are just
minor candidates. It also might provide the basis for
a suit against CPD for false advertisement when they
promote their “National Debate” when it is incomplete.
