Montana Governor Suggests that Pro-Gun Rights Voters Ought to Vote for Barr

October 23rd, 2008

On October 23, Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat who is pro-gun rights himself, was quoted in the Missoulian newspaper as saying that there is very little difference on policy concerning gun laws between Barack Obama and John McCain. He also suggests that voters who are most concerned to protect the rights of gun owners might wish to vote for Bob Barr.

Meanwhile, an MSU-Billings Poll released on October 23 gives these results. 400 voters were included in the poll: Obama 44.4%, McCain 40.2%, Ron Paul 4.2%, Barr 1.0%, Nader .7%, undecided 9.5%. See here for more details.

Support third party candidates as candidates, not as spoilers. I don’t like Brian Schweitzer.

  3. Allen Says:

This is old news, but a recent poll has Barr around 1% in Montana. Seems polls don’t mean much anyway.

I just read on the Liberty Maven site http://libertymaven.com/2008/10/23/ron-paul-is-the-spoiler-in-montana/2733/ that Ron Paul requested to be taken off the Montana ballot but that it was too late. Therefore, I recommend voting for Bob Barr. I assume that the situation in Louisiana is similar.

  5. Trent Hill Says:

Wow, 4.2% isnt bad for Ron Paul. I suspect that number will go up on election day, when it is obvious that McCain is going to be blown out and people get to the polls and unexpectantly see Ron Paul’s name on the ballot.

  6. Trent Hill Says:

    David Macko,

Your “assumption” is not correct. Ron Paul, nor his staff, ever asked to be taken off the Louisiana ballot. Furthermore, Barr isnt on the ballot in LA.

    Ron Paul 4.2%

Really makes you ponder what might have been if RP would have launched a concerted third party bid. Damn it.

  8. Richard Says:

Although Ron Paul never asked to be taken off the ballot in Louisiana, he did ask to be taken off in Montana. But, as noted, Montana said he was too late.

I think that Louisiana Barr supporters should vote Baldwin in return for North Carolina Baldwin supporters voting Barr.
