Oklahoma Democratic, Republican Party Chairs Say They Don’t Oppose Ballot Access Reform

October 26th, 2008

On October 19, the Daily Oklahoman newspaper carried this story, which says that, according to E. Z. Million (an independent candidate in 2006 for Lieutenant Governor), the Democratic and Republican Party state chairmen do not oppose easing presidential ballot access. Thanks to Richard Prawdzienski for the link.

It’s not just hearsay, the story has confirmation from both parties.

  2. NewFederalist Says:

Interesting how both dominant parties are so concerned about this issue now that it is far too late to do anything about it for this election cycle. Once this election is over let’s see just how far their new found commitment really goes.

  3. Robert Says:

I like the quote about 5000 signatures is enough to keep someone who only wants to see his name in print off the ballot.

1000 signatures should be enough to accomplish that goal.

  4. Andrew Says:

Hey 5000 would be a notable advance on where they are now – it will be for the ballot reform folks to keep up the pressure after the election.

I would love to see a universal $1000 and 1000 signature requirement in every state of the union.

There is no demonstrable compelling state interest in making the bar higher than that.
