Texas Corrects Clerical Error in Presidential Returns

January 5th, 2009

The Texas Secretary of State has corrected some clerical errors that had crept into the official November 2008 presidential returns, for the declared write-in candidates.

As a result, Chuck Baldwin gained 343 votes, Ralph Nader gained 226 votes, Cynthia McKinney gained 160 votes, and Jonathan Allan gained one vote.

Also, Brian Moore lost 778 votes, Alan Keyes lost 12 votes, and Thaddeus Hill lost 662 votes. The new totals should be posted soon on the nationwide presidential vote chart.

  1. Oops, all these folks had 26 state federal electors Says:

    Remember the Electoral College!

[as the Nader 2004 goofed on this item

Now that makes more sense. I was wondering how Hill could have gotten 876 votes.

Actually, if the Texas Secretary of State had corrected the Presidential returns, the votes for McCain and Obama would not have been counted.

We should remember that McCain and Obama were on the ballot ILLEGALLY.

Only Bob Barr was legally on the ballot.

    PEACE

Also, if Obama and McCain had been off the ballot, they would also have missed the late August deadline to file for write-in status.

Note that the “corrected” figures are still incorrect. The TX SoS only included the Early Voting figures in the correction. The Travis County Cumulative Report is here:
    http://www.co.travis.tx.us/county_clerk/election/20081104/files/cume1.pdf

The total vote is the column all the way on the right: Nader gets 790, Moore 15, McKinney, 253, Hill 7, Baldwin 667, and Allen 11

I’ve contacted the SoS and pointed this out. The Atlas page reflects the correct numbers.

Based upon posting elsewhere on the site, neither one was qualified to run in the first place. :-)
