New York Independence Party Figure Moves to Florida

Thomas Golisano told the press on May 15 that he is moving from New York to Florida. Golisano was the Independence Party’s gubernatorial candidate in 1994, 1998, and 2002. He is a billionaire, and he spent lavishly on his campaigns, polling enough votes in 2002 to give the Independence Party the third line on New York ballots (New York puts parties on the ballot in the order of how many votes they polled for Governor). See this story. Thanks to Bill Van Allen for the link. Golisano says he is paying $13,000 per day to New York in state taxes. Florida does not have a state income tax.

New York Independence Party Figure Moves to Florida — No Comments

  1. Will Golisano join up with the Reform/Independence Party in Florida while he’s living there since it is one of the nine states where it’s still on the ballot? Also, they interviewed a man who moved his business and employees to Florida and he said it was like giving the employees who moved a nine percent pay raise since they don’t have a state income tax.

  2. Politically, FLorida is fairly easy to gain and keep alternative persons, groups, and candidates. [The nearly defunct Reform Party/ Deform Party of FLorida is still ‘in the game’ after over a decade of limping along.]

More sneaky, in the shadows, Machiavellian Frank MacKay tactics in the Post Reform era. Note, any reference to the fakey dakey FLorida Eco /Ecological Party

  3. In 1994 TG consumed all the anti-Cuomo political oxygen in NYS thus perhaps preventing the LPNY from getting its 50K vote ballot access. It is / was a free country but the Pataki Party plus the Independent/Fusion Party got at least 50K for Governor in that year’s election.

  4. Just a little reminder for you Mr. vanAllen (assumiong that’s who you are). 50 days until July 4 and your complete discrediting, you foolish person.

  5. It’s you that can’t get over an election that happened 6 months ago.

  6. So Golisano thinks he knows better what to do with the money he earns than the state does. Why, the audacity of the man!

Tennessee has gained at least two prominent citizens because of its lack of a state income tax. These are the late Harry Browne, the 1996 and 2000 Libertarian presidential nominee, and Arthur Laffer, the famous supply-side economist.

Tennessee does tax dividend and interest income, BTW.

  7. Tom Golisano focused his last campaign on criticizing Pataki’s big government tax & spend record, and calling for repealing the Rockefeller Drug Laws. If the Libertarian Party had given him a second line, they could have gotten 50,000 votes and ballot status.
