Virginia Gubernatorial Race Likely to be a Two-Candidate Race
June 8th, 2009This year, Virginia elects state officers. The petition deadline for minor party and independent candidates is Tuesday, June 9. It appears that no minor party or independent candidates for statewide office will have qualified. The Independent Green Party had been petitioning for Glenda Gail Parker for Governor, but did not complete its petition. An independent candidate, Christopher DeCarlo, had also been petitioning, but he later abandoned that drive and instead ran for the legislature.
This will be the first time since 1989 that no minor party or independent candidate appeared on the ballot for Governor of Virginia.

Yes, Jerry, it seems that IGVA success this year was placing candidates on the ballot for a number of State Delegate races. Even with that effort, it is a sad reality that over 40 of the 100 seats will go uncontested.
