Massachusetts Treasurer Registers as an Independent

July 8th, 2009

In Massachusetts, State Treasurer is an elected partisan position. On July 8, the Massachusetts Treasurer, Tim Cahill, changed his registration from “Democrat” to “Independent”. He is more fiscally conservative than most Democrats in state government. He says he is “leaning heavily toward running” for Governor in 2010 as an Independent.

A Democrat with some fiscal responsibility?
How organized is LP in Massachuetts, cause that might be a potential fit.

The Massachusetts Libertarian Party is ballot-qualified.

The MA LP is controlled by George Philies and people who call themselves “neo-pagans.”

Even if it was respectable though, being a deficit hawk does not at all suggest that you would want to abolish all taxes.

As a resident of Massachusetts, I can tell you Cahill’s been gunning for Gov. Patrick since the latter was sworn in in 2007. Now, having worked for John Anderson in 1980 and Ralph Nader in 2000, I have a soft spot in my heart for independent and alternative party candidates. However, were he honest, Cahill would have place an “R” next to his name.
