In Texas, the primary role of the Lt. Governor is to be presiding officer of the Senate.

It would be easier just to have a Gov./Lt. Gov. ticket like in Indiana.

Deemer, this is not true and the split partisan [like the early residential/ vice presidential personalities of the USA] has been an unresolved problem for at least a century. You know not what you are talking about!

The elimination of the Lt. Governor would be a fitting legacy for the current LG. This guy is the biggest do nothing in the state. He has no influence on the horrible, corrupt CALVETS vets biz. He wastes time and money appointing, only as a vote grabber, a loose cannon specialist in veterans issues.

2004 John 'Scary' Kerry apologist Wade Sanders has done nothing to help veteran inmates in the terrible veterans homes. He, as a convicted Kiddie Porn King, now joins bribery specialist Puke Cunningham in federal stir. [Makes ya proud doesn't it!]

And lousy on abused veterans, there is always big time do nothing Jim King, almost two decades just down the road from the worst veterans home on the planet!

Maybe that's what you get for being the lone dissenting voice of the UC Regents when they voted to implement a furlough plan for staff and further cuts to the UC system. Garamendi proposed instead a tax on every barrel of oil extracted from California's oil fields.

Lt. Guvs can always be a department head in the executive branch -- to be somewhat useful in a regime.

Does that mean AIP will not have James King on the American Independent Party State Central Committee, because the office will be sunsetted?

Sincerely, Mark Seidenberg, Vice Chairman, American
Independent Party

Lt. Governors and Vice Presidents should be the second highest vote getters for Gov. or Prez.

While it is true that the Lieutenant Governor will not always be from the same party as the Governor when (D) Jerry Brown was Governor & for one term (R) Mike Curb was Lieutenant Governor an arrangement was worked out on how & when the Lieutenant Governor would exercise power when the Governor is out of the State. Does this bill specify how 20-20 ties in the State Senate are to be resolved. Currently, the Lt. Governor does cast a tie breaker when necessary. This also presupposes that it is in the State's interest to eliminate a major office. The Lt. Governor does have duties other than just filling in for an absent Governor.

One of the biggest weaknesses of the Lt Governor is the lack of assurance that the two officers would be of the same party. Does Jeffries address that issue?

Donald Raymond Lake, used abused not amused
