I guess New York must not have any campaign finance laws that prevents such a large contribution. Can the Dems and Reps accept contributions this large? Does it happen very often?

Also, the Working Families Party has endorsed Thompson:

My guess is this:
Bloomberg needed help and volunteers for his various signature drives.
A donation encourages the Independence Party to talk-up helping Bloomberg with that task.
(Remember, Bloomberg is going for the made up jobs and something line, too. That is a lot of signatures!)

The New York mayoral nomination is one of the few things NOT controlled by state chairman Frank MacKay. The mayoral line is controlled by cult leader Fred Newman and Lenora Fulani. That is why Bloomberg gave the money to the New York County party, controlled by Newman, and not to the State party. It was part of the deal for Newman to allow Bloomberg to run on the party line, since he’s not a member. It’s much harder to win on the Republican line alone in NYC, which is heavily Democratic.

Glad I don’t live in NYC……what a frightening thought….Newman, Fulani and the CUIP crowd with a direct line to the mayor…
