Tom Tancredo Will Address Constitution Party Meeting

Published on August 19, 2009, by in General.

The Constitution Party holds a national committee meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, Oct. 22-24. Former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo will speak to the meeting on October 23.

This is the third meeting in a row of the National Committee of the Constitution Party to feature a talk by a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives. John Hostettler of Indiana addressed the December 2008 meeting, and Virgil Goode of Virginia addressed the spring 2009 meeting. Tancredo, unlike the other two former members of Congress, was not defeated for re-election. He chose not to run for re-election in 2008.

    That IS pretty impressive.

I wish the Party was that sharp in Virginia :(

The Constitution Party members who want Tancredo at their event sure are willing to overlook the fact that Tancredo voted for several things that violate their party’s platform, and he also endorsed Mitt Romney for President, a candidate who is even further from the Constitution Party’s platform.

It seems to me that their support of Tancredo is based on his stance against illegal immigration, and they are willing to overlook everything else.

  4. I cannot speak for the National Committee Meeting organizers or the National Party for sure, but as a Member of the Party, and member of the State Executive Committee of the Constitution Party of North Carolina I might be able to shed some light here.

Yes, you are right Tancredo doesn’t exactly fit our platform like we like. We are having him as a speaker at this upcoming meeting, I would imagine to discuss the immigration issue, which we agree with him on. This is not an endorsement of everything he did, does or believes, but us having someone speak on an issue that we believe is important. Just because someone speaks at our meetings, doesn’t mean they are endorsed by us.

I personally do not support Tancredo as a whole, but on the immigration issue as far as I understand, I’m right there with him. I’d love to hear him speak on the issue, but not necessarily on other.

Good for the CP; those are big names.

  6. The Republican Party has had a pro-life plank in its platform since 1980, and yet the GOP has a large ‘pro-choice’ wing.

I don’t agree with the Constitution Party’s trade protectionism, and yet I’ve voted mulitiple times for the CP’s presidential nominees.

As I recall, Tancredo endorsed Romney as preferable to McCain.

If you’re looking for ideological purity, you’ll be waiting a long time.
