Some Republicans want to recruit a higher-profile State Senator to run against Vitter--if nothing else, to prove we aren't going to accept his hypocrisy laying down. I want A.G. Crowe to run.

The Libertarian Party of Louisiana has been actively seeking at least three candidates for its 2010 U.S. Senate primary:

http://louisianalibertarian.net/Candidates.html

They have already recruited Tony Gentile. Stormy would be the second Libertarian in the race. Gentile describes himself as "conservative" and "Christian" in his ads. If Stormy does run as a Libertarian, the debates should be interesting.

There is a possibility that David Vitter will be the only Republican and Charlie Melancon will be the only Democrat in next year's U.S. Senate race. If so, then neither of those parties would hold a primary.

If the Libertarians do have a multi-candidate field and the other recognized parties don't, then that could be a good PR opportunity for the Libertarians. The Libertarian primary would be the only chance that voters had to cast ballots in the earliest stage of the Senate race. Registered members of other recognized parties would not be able to vote in the Libertarian primary, but the 20+% of Louisiana voters who have no party affiliation would be faced with the choice of either voting in the Libertarian primary or abstaining from the Senate primary completely.

This could get interesting indeed.

Although latest polls show Vitter comfortably ahead. And in a big Republican year, he'll probably get reelected easily despite her efforts.

Well, well, well... this could be interesting. I wish she would run as a Democrat, though. Al Franken needs more comedy relief in the Senate!
