James Hedges Seeks Prohibition Party Presidential Nomination in 2012

On February 18, James Hedges, a long-time activist in the Prohibition Party, declared his candidacy for the party’s presidential nomination in 2012. He is the only person who has won a partisan election as a Prohibition Party nominee in the last 50 years. He was elected Assessor of Thompson Township, Fulton County, Pennsylvania, in 2001, and re-elected in 2005.

The Prohibition Party is ballot-qualified in one state, Florida. Hedges is 71 and lives in Big Cove Tannery, Pennsylvania, in Fulton County. He has been active in local government and in civic groups, and was once a member of the United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C.

James Hedges Seeks Prohibition Party Presidential Nomination in 2012 — No Comments

  1. The Prohibition camel is 141 years old this year!

Hedges is a good guy. And he is dedicated to the care
and maintenance of the nation’s oldest living minor
party in its post-Dodge era and following the passing
of Gene Amondson. I wish him well.

  2. Jim is a great guy and has and still works with us on ballot access issues in Pennsylvania.

  3. I am old, because I remember the Prohibition Party in
    California in 1962.

Sincerely, Mark Seidenberg, Vice Chairman, American Independent Party.

P.S. Yesterday, I was at the fair in Indio, CA, viz.,
the home of the Camel races. AIP had reserved the free
speech area at gate 6 to have candidates meet the folks entering the fair. No sight of Chelene Nightingale, James KIng, or Don Grundmann at this Riverside County
Fair. Lets elect Markham Robinson for Governor of California. Remember that Nash drew the Camel for the
    Prohibition Party.

  4. Mark;

Since the California election laws are so tough and the Prohibition Party could never obtain ballot access, I have urged indidvidual Prohibitionists to register AIP and run as individual Prohibitionist candidates in your AIP primary for state and local offices. My question, would you as Chairman, welcome these advocates of Prohibition to use your party as a vehicle for advancing their issues?

  6. Indio, [California]: the home of the Camel races …..

    [I’d walk a mile for a ……. ]

For those non West Coasters, this is just a hop
down I-10 or State 111 from Chelene’s [non existent]
local base at San Bernardino [I-10 and I-15]. As I
have said for almost a year, no one out side of the
telephone booth of Save Our State [which she ran in
to the ground and was booted out of in late 2009]
knows of her! No local or state following, stuck on
illegal immigration, and failing to broaden her base
via the near by [failed] veterans care campus struggling at Barstow(n).

Geez, with ‘friends’ like Ms Nightingale, does the anti abortion, secure boarders, pro fair trade movement even need enemies ???????

  7. Dear Steven Gordon [Alabaminian ????]:

[how’s the son Hammer of Truth doing/ not doing ????]

I think Markham should consider it, altho I personally do not know of one Left Coast Prohibitionist Party activist.

  8. Sorry, “Don Lake and call for,” I am not Steven Gordon!

But you will be shocked to know that there ARE a few “Left Coast Prohibitionist Party activist.” True, most of them are involved in other temperance organizations, but there are two or three at least.

Still, I wonder how the AIP leadership would react if an individual Prohibitionist registered AIP and filed for a national, state or Assembly office? Would they be treated with the same contempt that Ms. Nightingale has been treated by some? Is the AIP only for those who “have paid their dues,” “who cross their “t’s” and dot their “i’s” only as they are told they must do, and “only for those who cannot think for themselves?”

  9. Thomas Nast was the political cartoonist who drew the donkey (actually an ass) and the elephant in the 1870’s as symbols to represent the Democrats and the Republicans. I was unaware he had also drawn the camel to represent the Prohibition Party but it sounds likely.

” …. True, most of them are involved in other temperance organizations, but there are two or three at least ………..”

“I wonder how the AIP leadership [Ambassador Alan Keyes cabal ????] would react if an individual Prohibitionist registered AIP and filed for a national, state [Senate] or Assembly office? ”

“Would they be treated with the same contempt that Ms. Nightingale has been treated by some? Is the AIP only for those who “have paid their dues,” “who cross their “t’s” and dot their “i’s” only as they are told they must do, and “only for those who cannot think for themselves?”

[a] speaking only for my self, and I am VERY SOFT on abortion and shake in fear of political ‘Bible Beaters’, I do not think so. I am VERY INDEPENDENT, do not ‘play well with others’, and speak my mind at the drop of a hat [ANY HAT]!

[b] The [Squrely, Gay Posturing] Chuck Baldwin group and the national [so called] Constitution Party is held in VERY LOW regard by my self. The lack of ethics is horrendous.

[c] I am glad you are questioning, and I have been SO DISAPPOINTED in other third parties, but see for your self.

[d] Are these Left Coast Prohibition types devious out and out liars [Cory Quirk] or tangential nut cases [Nightingale] ???? Are they physicians whom do not believe in science [Doctor Donald J. Grundmann] ??????

[e] If they are and they spout lies do not expect me to be quiet!

[f] Get off your lazy butt (or have them do some web research} and make some phone calls. If you [or they] like Nightingale [dropped from the Save Our State group and bitterly HATED by FORMER allies!] and Grundmann [whom I supported far and wide —– in 2004] you can expect nothing but flak from me!

  11. donlake: At least you responded. I’ll give you credit for that. But many of these “Bible Beaters,” as you call them, pose as “Christian Conservatives” (I’m not judging them other than to make a point) and attempt to “tip toe” around the Alcohol issue – just like they do the Tobacco issue and the Gambling issue. Alcohol kills more innocent people on the highways each year than there have been troops killed in Irag since we first invaded. Many people are outraged over the loss of American life in Iraq, but no ones seems to care about those Americans killed by drunk drivers. What hypocrisy.

But thanks for being willing to share your views.

  12. you will be shocked to know that there ARE a few “Left Coast Prohibitionist Party activist.” True, most of them are involved in other temperance organizations, but there are two or three at least.

——— Have not even begun to find them, via 12 pages of google!

——— I do drink alcohol, but have never been drunk in my life (or smoked one cigarette, or ever taken any street drug) I agree with most of your state ment, but do not under stand why you think Quirk, Nightingale, and Grundmann are being mistreated. (“Mommie, mommie, they started it …….”)

——— Ship me info on Left Coast Prohibition types and I will make sure that they are contacted.

——— Wish us luck this year, the tangential folks are just getting wackier and wackier!

  13. HEDGES IS A GOOD MAN HE WILL MAKE A BETTER CANDIDATE THAN EITHER DODGE OR AMONDSON.HEDGES IS ALSO A FORMER MARINE

  14. To Don Lake:

Okay, I don’t know all that you may know about Nightingale. But she seems to have a strong campaign – if her website is any indication. Mr. Robinson – the last time I checked – did not even have a website set up. Where is his website? Where are his supporters? I mean, the last time I checked, the objective is to nominate the candidate who has the most support – not from just AIP members – but from the voters in general. Is that not what the objective of a primary is? Nominate the candidate(s) who has the best chance of winning?

  15. I think Mr. Hedges is rather despicable, and I suspect he will do no better than previous candidates.

I also think he has a lot of gall to continue to portray my father as the party’s “Architect of Oblivion”, while asking for support from my mother.

  16. An Alabama Independent Says:

[a] still waiting for Left Coast prohibitionists to contact me. waiting, waiting, waiting

[b] [I will type this LOUDLY and s l o w l y !] Chelene has had her site up for months and months. Virtually unchanged from 2009. No endorsements out side of the Chuck Baldwin faction of the uber conservatives. No communications with the out side world. A G A I N She and her crew made at least TWO MAJOR mistakes on this filing. Her ‘leader ship’ in Save Our State ran the group into the ground. She was booted out to the cheering of the multitudes! The group has nothing good to say ’bout her. H E L L O, H E L L O

[c] oh, the primary is IN JUNE, and the general is IN NOVEMBER. Duh!

[d] are you a Chuck Baldwin/ Chelene Nightingale mole ????

  17. I am pleased to be noticed by Calvin Dodge (Earl Dodge’s son)! I have invited several of the Dodge relatives to send corrections or commentary for my biography of Earl Dodge, for posting together with the biography. None has submitted any; in fact, Earl, Jr. told me that there are no errors in the biography.
Several of the Dodge relatives ran as Prohibition Party candidates in 1978-1990. I have invited them to submit their own biographies for posting, along with the biographies of other candidates. None of them have done so.

  18. THEIR CANDIDATE GOT LESS THAN 700 VOTES IN 2008.SO WHO GIVES A SHIT WHO THEY RUN IN 2012.PROHIBITION WILL NEVER RETURN.CAN WE DISCUSS REAL ISSUES PLEASE

  19. I JUST GOT A GREAT IDEA LETS DRAFT ELMER FUDD FOR PRESIDENT ON THE PROHIBITION PARTY CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012,HE HAS NAME RECOGNITION AND HE IS VERY COMICIAL

  20. Will B,

You may well be right about Prohibition’s future. But it sounds a lot like you are saying that nothing is “real” if it can’t succeed electorally or in making policy.

If that is what you mean, maybe you should be on one of
those “real” Democratic or Republican sites. Oh, wait. The gridlocked duopolitarians don’t make policy anymore either.

  21. DAVE, THIRD PARTIES ARE A WASTE OF TIME OF COURSE THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY AND I SUPPORT THE RIGHT OF ANY CITIZEN TO RUN FOR ANY OFFICE,MY FRIEND IN POLITICS YOU ARE ONLY SUCCESSFUL IF YOU WIN.THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE

  22. STEVE RANKIN HELLO LARRY CRISLERS ANSWER SUMS UP MY POSITION.IS YOUR GOV GOING TO RUN for PRES?.

  23. #28: Haley Barbour has left the door open to a presidential run, but I don’t think he’ll take the plunge.

How do you decide whether to post under “WILL BATES” or “patsy gail”??

  24. To Don Lake;

Again, you’re avoiding my questions. When is Mr. Robinson going to start up his website? When is he going to start appearing on radio programs promoting his candidacy? When is he going to start making public campaign appearances, likewise for promoting his candidacy? Why don’t you stop finding so much fault with Ms. Nightingale and start convincing the voters why Mr. Robinson would be the more “electable” candidate?

And no, I am not a Nightingale/Baldwin mole. I would support Mr. Robinson if he can convince me and start demonstrating with an active candidacy that he has a better chance of winning votes in November than does Ms. Nightingale. Again, that is what the primary election is about isn’t it? Or is it only a public inquisition to make sure that all AIPers cross their “t’s” and dot their “i’s” just the way Alan Keyes says they must?

If I lived in California, I’d most likely register with the AIP. But, I doubt you and Mr. Robinson would let me run for an office because my stand on some issues are probably heresies within your branch of the AIP I’m sure. I happen to believe in a minimum wage law!! (Oh, that makes me a Communist, doesn’t it?) I also happen to believe in labor unions. (Oh, I’m a really bad Communist now, aren’t I?)

Get real, Mr. Don Lake. As I’ve said time and time again, 3rd parties are their own worst enemies!! You are proving me right.

  25. hA, Chelene Nightingale is married to some rock guy that has women flirting with him on his myspace page!! (nice Governor husband material) NOT! NIGHTINGALE IS A LOWLIFE!! An opportunist….I dare you to watch her “conspiracy theory” youtubes…even the film maker is mocking her and she is so dumb she doesn’t pick it up!! Good Gosh! Just because someone screams louder does not make them the RIGHT CANDIDATE! It takes no talent to run your mouth off…like she does. She is creepy if you ask me. C R E E P Y!

  26. btw alabummer….Jerry Brown does not have his website up either….but he is running. Those that GOT IT Don’t have to flaunt it….Nightingale needs ALL THE HELP SHE CAN GET….lol Mr. Robinson speaks VOLUMES WITHOUT UTTERING A SINGLE WORD…..GO MARKHAM ROBINSON… I will be his personal cheerleader online…..:)

  27. You never did answer my question of would you oppose me as an AIP candidate if I lived and ran for office in California with my pro-minimum wage and pro-union position?

  28. Talk about creepy- looks like Markham has a stalking admirer and the psycho’s name is Babe Levine.

    GET A LIFE!

  29. March! I love the beginning of spring. Now is the right time to start spreading the word about THE ONLY Honest candidate for Governor MARKHAM ROBINSON 2010!!! Current Chairman of the AIP American Independent party.

  30. To Babe Levine:

    Amen!

At the last CCIR meeting I saw the airhead speak. She had a plan of getting fellow RINO’s re-register from the
GOP after they signed nomination papers for fellow RINO’s running on the Republican County Central Committee. Then she wanted them to re-register AIP
again to vote for her in the AIP primary on June 8th
and can become a register Republican on June 9th.

Instead of trying to bill the AIP, Nightingale and her
cohorts think the elector procees is a game, viz.,

    1. Had RINO backers re-register from Republican to AIP
to sign her signatures in lieu of filing fee documents
    circa January 4, to February 25, 2010.

    2. After signing her signature in lieu sheets to re-register back in the GOP to sign nomination petitions
for RINO cohorts running for office on the Republican
    County Central Committee.

    3. After signing nomination papers of the GOP county central committee re-register back to the AIP to vote
for Nightingale and her ticket in the June 8th Primary
    election.

    4. After the primary election have the RINO’s return as
    GOP electors.

Jim Kings wife system has Nighingale beat by a mile.
Rayna P. Mike-King just registered as a Repubican in
Los Angeles County and American Independent Party in San
Bernardino County. Hold office in the AIP as a resident of San Bernardino County in the AIP and receive
awards from Republican as a resident of Los Angeles County.

Now to the connection between Rayna P. Mike-King [wife of Jim King] and the person that received the award of
Republican Business Man of the Year at the same circa
as Rayna P. Mike-King received the Republican Business
Woman of the Year award, viz., Abdul Tawala ibn Ali Alishtari, aliases “Alistari Mixon” and “Michael Mixon”.
On September 29, 2009 Abdul Tawala ibn Ali Alishtari one
of the founders of the “National Democratic Party of Alabama” and a backer John Cashin against George Wallace
was convicted of being a Terrorist Banker for sending
$152,000 to support a terrorist camp in Afganistan in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He was just permitted to receive
“retirement status” with the Arab Bankers Association of
North American, because the ABANA does not permit
felons to be active members of its banking association.

What I have yet to determine is why Rayna P. Mike-King receive the award like the Mixon in 2004
when she was a National Committee Woman of the American
Independent Party and her husband Jim King was the Chairman of the American Independent Party from the GOP.

To the Alabama Independent, please provide details of the race between John Cashin and George Wallace in this
    line of postings. Thanks.

Sincerely, Mark Seidenberg, Vice Chairman, American Independent Party
