California Libertarian Phone Bank Has Already Telephoned 2,000 Voters on Proposition 14

California Libertarians have set up a phone bank to ask voters to vote “No” on Proposition 14, the top-two ballot measure that is on the June 8 ballot. The volunteers have already made 2,000 phone calls, according to Libertarian office manager Beau Cain. It is not clear if that means 2,000 numbers were dialed, or whether it means 2,000 conversations have actually taken place.

  1. 2000 calls have been made, I’m hearing, with roughly half of those being live conversations and half of those being messages left on machines.

  3. We passed 2000 numbers dialed yesterday afternoon. Normally you would expect to “reach” (live or voice mail) about 25-30% of the calls placed. We’re reaching slightly more than 54%. More than a third of those reached are actual conversations with slightly less than two thirds being messages on voice mail or answering machines.

The calls are being placed to registered libertarians in California, to make sure that they are aware of the importance of voting against prop 14 and encouraging their friends to vote against it as well. Most of these are not active party members, but are voters who registered themselves as libertarian.

The “offensive team” in any campaign is the public message, including radio/tv ads and any media coverage you can get. The “defense” is phone banking and other gotv efforts. Neither rarely wins by itself, so it is very encouraging to see that there are now active media campaigns sending out the message of just how bad prop 14 is.

  4. Stewart, thanks for putting libertymanager out for us to use in this effort. I may be a critic of you, but certainly not in this case. It’s a breeze to use and is a great tool.

Thanks from all of us in California for this!
