Tom Tancredo, Constitution Party Nominee for Colorado Governor, Would Support Legalization of Marijuana — 12 Comments

  1. Nothing wrong with that- marijuana is as dangerous as cigarettes or alcohol, yet both are legal.

I believe that any kind of drug enforcement is best left up to the states and local communities to enforce or regulate in any manner whatsoever. Though I would probably vote to legalize it here in Nevada.

  2. How can a government make possession of one of God’s creations, and an indigenous one at that, a crime anyway?

  3. Cody, marijuana is really good for your sex life. Ask your wife if she ever spent any intimate moments with a guy who smoked it. Maybe, you could try it yourself, and see what it does for you. An added plus, you can smoke and drive. Your wife probably would appreciate a really good shag for a change. Take her out for a lovely dinner, burn a nice number, take her to bed, and see what she says.

  4. Once I traveled to Panama. The skyline of Panama City was cluttered with cranes. I asked a friendly policeman about them, and he responded by saying “Those are what we call the ‘cocaine towers,’ senior.” He went on to explain that the Columbian drug kingpins invest some of their earnings in real estate in their neighboring country, Panama. It’s easier there because in Panama the legal tender is the American dollar.

So here’s how the equation works…We in the States spend billions and billions of dollars in the longest “war” we’ve ever fought, engaging over 50 federal agencies in the work. By making these substances illegal, we artificially inflate their value exponentially (if you don’t believe me ask an Afghan poppy farmer how much he makes growing flowers). American cash leaves our economy and flutters into the wallets of Columbians and other non-American “criminals.” They get rich and reinvest their profits into ANOTHER country. We don’t even benefit from the legitimate reinvestment of our money!

Yet conservatives complain about Federal overspending.

Meanwhile, because the drugs generally filter into the U.S. from the south, drug “criminals” in Mexico compete for the business and against Mexican authorities who are also stupidly deployed by their country in this “war.” Violence predictably escalates exponentially, which in turn encourages Mexican families to leave their country, illegally emigrating into the U.S.

And conservatives complain about illegal immigration.

While this is all happening, we fill our state and federal judicial system and our state and federal prisons with drug “convicts.” Both systems are overcrowded and terribly overburdened. The same artificial support our drug laws create for drug prices fosters more violence in our own country, so our policing force is also overworked by the laws themselves. The time they spend chasing drug “criminals” is diverted from time which could be spent protecting the populace from crimes against their persons and their possessions.

Still, conservatives complain about crime, and complain about “liberal” judges releasing convicted felons because there’s no place for them in the prisons. And they enthusiastically support “three-time” loser laws which are, for the most part, applied to defendants being tried and convicted on drug law violations.

Across the globe, the activities of al Qaeda are being financed by the production of drugs which have almost no intrinsic value but whose prices are artificially supported by the United States’ drug laws.

Instead of taking the obvious steps which would throttle al Qaeda’s source of cash, conservatives are willing instead to further drain our treasury by funding a military budget which exceeds the rest of the world’s countries’ budgets combined.

And the net result of this is precisely ZERO effect on the rate of consumption of drugs in this country. It’s been 37 years since Nixon appointed the first drug “czar” and we’re still “losing” this “war.”

Tancredo is a conservative, and an idiot too, of course. However on this matter he’s unwittingly stumbled on a small part of the solution to this problem. Let’s give him credit for that.

  5. Cody Quirk Says: marijuana is as dangerous as cigarettes or alcohol,

perhaps you should educate yourself before leaving a bird-brain comment..

    Marijuana has NEVER KILLED ANYONE…

now should i post the numbers of cigarettes and alcohol related deaths??
not to mention the number of family’s it has destroyed..

  6. Tancredo, the hate and ignorance monger. The man who repeatedly fails the test of power.
I’d try to set it up with the requirement that if Tancredo wins ANY office, herb gets legalized. Heaven knows the folks will need herb if Tancredo is back screwing up things.
Folks, Alcohol severely Debilitates. Herb Ameliorates. Booze KILLS. Herb TICKLES.
I want herb LEGAL in MY Lifetime. I’m 55.
Millions of us aging babyboomers are fed up with being made into outlaws simply because we enjoy a plant. Sheesh!
Wake up, America. Free Mary Jane. She was framed!
We are living under laws based on lies.

  7. Here are some song lyrics FOR ALL THE POSTERS ON THIS THREAD. See if you can guess the title before reading to the bottom:

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me ’till I’m sane
    You lock the door
    And throw away the key
There’s someone in my head but it’s not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon

    Song: “Brain Damage”
By: the group formerly known as the Screaming Abdabs

  8. #5, I appreciate the time you took to delineate some history on the drug and the consequences. I see a lot of your good points. If I ran for office I am not sure how to communicate a policy on marijuana. Do I smoke? No. Do I want my family to smoke? No. Would I want my co-workers, employees, or drivers on the road to smoke? No. Do I think that the police should be arresting people for carrying it if it’s a small enough amount for personal consumption? No. Are drug laws unenforceable? Pretty much. Should someone be able to smoke in their own house? Yes. If someone can build on this with constructive feedback, that would be helpful.

  9. What we really need is a 21st Amendment rewrite of section 2 to replace the word “liquors” with “substances”. This gets the Feds totally out of the drug war except with respect to securing the borders. And even then, Fed involvement would have to be in accordance with each state’s specific laws on those substances.

21st Amendment, Section 2: The transportation or importation into any State, Territory, or possession of the United States for delivery or use therein of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited.

= I’m divorced, but I’ve been with a few chicks that smoke it… Yeah I agree with you.

Never indulged myself because of the job situation here. Maybe someday I will.

  11. perhaps you should educate yourself before leaving a bird-brain comment..

= Or perhaps you can shut the fuck up, asshole!
I’m on your goddamn side! How about you put down the goddamn bong and get a clue for an hour or two?!

People can still get high to the point that they can cause a traffic accident or do something stupid, even if marijuana fatalities are a hell of a lot lower then those for the other two legal substances.
