Texas Poll Shows Libertarian Statewide Ticket Polling Between 5% and 8%, in Races That Include Both Major Parties

On September 13, a University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll was released, showing the results for several of the statewide races.  All of the Libertarians mentioned in the poll for statewide office are polling between 5% and 8%, even though the listed races also include Democratic and Republican nominees.  Not since 1992 has the Texas Libertarian Party been able to poll as much as 5% in a statewide race that had both a Democrat and a Republican also running.  In 1992, Libertarian nominee Richard Draheim, running against both a Republican and a Democrat for Railroad Commissioner, had polled 6.99%.

The poll shows these results for the gubernatorial race:  Rick Perry, Republican, 39%; Bill White, Democrat, 33%; Kathie Glass, Libertarian, 5%; Deb Shafto, Green, 1%; undecided 22%.  The best previous showing for a Libertarian for Texas Governor had been in 1990, when Jeff Daiell had polled 3.32%.  The best, and only, Green Party showing for Texas Governor had been in 2002, when Rahul Mahajan had polled .71%.

  1. This is very impressive. As a loyal Republican I gotta admit. But also interesting if you add libertarian-leaning Rick Perry’s 39% to Libertarian Kathie Glass’s 5%, that’s 44% compared to the socialist score of White 33% and Green Party 1%.

    Pro-Freedom – 44%

    Anti-Freedom – 34%

  2. How many seconds until the ANTI-Freedom TX gerrymander Elephants crush ALL third parties / independents off the ballots ???

    Obviously the TX LP is now a MAJOR threat to the regime.

  3. Eric, why are all Republicans that have a good percentage always libertarian leaning.I don’t care to give Republicans any more chances to screw things up as they did during the Bush years. We just need to elect good people.

  4. A lot of effort, time, energy and most likely ammo, is being wasted on single winner districts…people should consider looking at the elected 100-member district 2010 beachhead. We sorely need more specialists, to approach the concrete bunker from the left, the right and the center. I can get you elected, if you’re in communication. Click below to find out more;

  5. The UT Poll is an internet poll, which attempts to simulate the sampling of a randomly-dialed phone survey, by demographic matching persons who had volunteered to be surveyed.

  6. @clay, I can say that from Kathie’s website and the speeches that I have heard, she is very much in favor of securing our border through the use of the TX State Guard. No waiting around for Washington. We didn’t create the problem, but we’ve gotta do something to clean up the mess.
