Lenora Fulani Seems to Endorse Charles Barron, Freedom Party Nominee for New York Governor

New York city councilmember Charles Barron is running for Governor of New York on the Freedom Party ticket.  Although he is a registered Democrat, he and the Freedom Party are unhappy that no statewide nominee of the Democratic Party this year is non-white.  Barron represents the 42nd district in Brooklyn, and when he was young, in 1969, he was an activist in the Black Panther Party.  Here is his official city web page.  He doesn’t seem to have a campaign web page.

On October 5, Lenora Fulani held a press conference to express her opinion about the New York gubernatorial race.  She said, “I welcome Charles Barron’s entry into independent politics and his bid to create the Freedom Party.  And I want to urge the Harlem community, together with independent-minded people across this state, to help the Freedom Party get the 50,000 votes needed for ballot status.”

The other nominees of the Freedom Party this year are Ramon Jimenez for Attorney General, and Eva Doyle for Lieutenant Governor.  Former New York city Mayor David Dinkins has said that Charles Barron should be allowed into this year’s gubernatorial debates.  Thanks to Nancy Hanks for this news.

Lenora Fulani Seems to Endorse Charles Barron, Freedom Party Nominee for New York Governor — 5 Comments

  1. Tex Wood, and I attended an address by Lenora at the Natural Law Party convention in 2000.

In those days, a decade ago, we were trying to combine the Natural Law Party and the Green Party. It was an effort started in the ’90’s.

Lenora’s speech was superb. She was kind and considerate to both Tex and me in our efforts to encourage her involvement in the Green Party.

One can only respect and appreciate her discipline, and work across decades….

  2. Will people please stop allowing this woman to ‘hold press conferences? She and Fred Newman and their cult should just go away

  3. At the press conference, Dr. Fulani said there were two good choices for independent minded voters in NY this November.

She recommends both Charles Barron on the Freedom Line and Andrew Cuomo on the Independence Line. Either choice advances, as she says, “the twin causes of independent politics and black empowerment.”

  4. Patrick Buchanan dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination in October 1999, and declared his candidacy for the Reform Party nomination. At first Lenora Fulani supported Buchanan. But then, after the Buchanan forces called a special convention of the Reform Party and forced Jack Gargan out as national Reform Party chair, Fulani and her allies turned against Buchanan and threw their support to John Hagelin, Buchanan’s rival for the Reform Party presidential nomination (and he was also the Natural Law Party presidential candidate). That is why the New York Independence Party nominated Hagelin for president in 2000, because at the time Fulani and her allies controlled the state Independence Party. Hagelin got a larger percentage of the vote in New York state in 2000 than in any other state.
