  1. I believe this is a first for the Ohio LP– A major newspaper endorsement for a LP candidate in Ohio– at least a statewide candidate. The Plain Dealer is the # 1 or # 2 newspaper in Ohio. We continue to build the LP BRAND and give it legitimacy in Ohio.

My question is if a major newspaper has ever endorsed a statewide Libertarian candidate in any state, ever?

  2. Congratulations to Matthew Cantrell and the Ohio Libertarian Party. Best wishes for victory!

  3. This is good news for the Ohio LP.

@ #1 – in 1978, the Bakersfield Californian endorsed Ed Clark for Governor. He was nominated by the Libertarian Party of California and was on the ballot as an Independent.

In 1980, the Peoria, Il daily newspaper endorsed Ed Clark for President. I don’t remember the name of the paper.

  4. Gene: It was the Peoria Journal-Star that endorsed Ed Clark in 1980. I found a couple of references to that in the Google News archives.

  5. you might not read newspapers, but millions of old baby boomers and WWII generation still do. We are not all dead yet.
