Pennsylvania Elected Official Switches from Democrat to Independent

Last month, Schuykill County’s elected Controller, Melinda Kantner, changed her registration from “Democratic” to “independent.” She will run for re-election this November as an independent candidate. According to this newspaper story, she is the first countywide elected official in approximately 100 years who is neither a Republican nor a Democrat. Schuykill County is in eastern Pennsylvania, and contains Pottsville. The county has a population of 150,000. In the 2008 presidential election, John McCain carried the county with 53.5% of the total vote. Thanks to ThirdPartyDaily for the link.

Pennsylvania Elected Official Switches from Democrat to Independent — No Comments

  1. I wish her well in her re-election bid as an “Independent” but I know how voters think and have been “brainwashed.” Getting Democrats (and its just as hard with Republicans) to vote for an Independent, is like getting a Baptist to attend a Lutheran Church.

  2. Demo Rep: I know this is from a previous posting, where I guess it was too far back for you to scroll and give me an answer, but referring to your statement in that posting that Prohibition was “insane,” then give us this answer: “If you would study your history and the facts, you would find that for every 1 dollar of tax revenue received from the sell of Alcoholic beverages, it cost taxpayers a minimum of 3 dollars in health care, social costs, and law enforcement to pay for the results of drinking. How INSANE is that?”

  5. Alabama Independent- are you a prohibitionist? (I assume not a Prohibitionist.) The Prohibition Party convention is in Alabama this year.

  6. # 3 How much known and UN-known costs connected with 1919-1933 Prohibition ??? — gangster and innocent dead and injured bodies, corrupt cops and courts taking bribes, terror in the streets – think Chicago and the Untouchables, operating cost of the jails for prohibition convicts, UN-paid taxes on illegal booze, etc. — especially MASSIVE disrespect for the system.

TOTAL INSANITY in 1919-1933 by party hack extremists.

  7. Demo Rep. You just helped make my point in your #7 posting. Read your history. You will find that lack of enforcement of the Prohibition amendment was what happened causing “How much known and UN-known costs connected with 1919-1933 Prohibition ??? — gangster and innocent dead and injured bodies, corrupt cops and courts taking bribes, terror in the streets – think Chicago and the Untouchables, operating cost of the jails for prohibition convicts, UN-paid taxes on illegal booze, etc.”

Prohibition was never enforced as it could have been. Where it was enforced – in the small, rural communities – it worked. It was in the corrupt cities where it was not enforced and the media made it appear this was what was happening all over America.

Americans – were dupped – and today the costs are just as bad if not more. Remember, $3 in government costs to pay for that $1 dollar in revenue. Some deal, uh? Read your history.

  8. # 9 NO production of illegal booze in rural areas ??? — moving the booze to those evil rotted cities — in addition to lots of illegal booze from Canada — think Purple Gang in Detroit — connected to the many booze factories in Windsor, Ontario.

Yeah. Sure. Appal. mountains in WV, E. TN, E. Ky, etc ???

See the earlier Whiskey Rebellion in the early 1790s — i.e. the 1791 first Internal Revenue Act of the gerrymander Congress.

Now about 80 percent of U.S.A. folks in urban areas ???

    P.R. and App.V.

Perhaps the Prohibition folks can take over a rural State legislature via P.R. and live happy forever ???

  9. Demo Rep. Actually Prohibitionists want you to be able to “live happy” and not have a drunk driver hit you head on and kill you. Do you still think this is all INSANITY?

  10. Demo Rep. No amount of tort payment brings back a dead child or other loved one killed by a drunk driver. What part of “dead child killed by a drunk driver” don’t you understand? Or, are you one of those who don’t care – as long as you can sip your martini at lunch, or go out for drinks with your buddies after work, then jump into your car and get on a public highway?

  11. ALL stuff can be abused — any folks go nuts after eating too much sugar, drinking too much water, etc. etc. ???

  12. Demo Rep.

First of all people do not abuse Alcohol. Alcohol ABUSES the user. You’re avoiding the issue here. Are you playing games, or do you really feel it is okay for someone to drink, get drunk, drive, and kill an innocent person and then use the excuse, “oh well, they ABUSED the Alcohol.”

And even if you do not justify such, aren’t you tired of paying extra taxes to take care of the costs for Alcohol users? Alcohol users (or Abusers – if you insist that is the case) cost you and me extra taxes in health care, law enforcement, not to mention the social services costs.

I don’t drink because I know (and have witnessed) the carnage it causes. But I’m getting a little tired footing the bill so they can be irresponsible and not held accountable. Aren’t you?

  13. # 15 How about forming an ANTI-Alcohol Party ???

Latest insanity on the news — abusing *bath salts* — more death and destruction.

  14. Demo Rep. You’re still avoiding the issue. Makes me suspect you have no problem with Alcohol being sold – despite the death, the costs, and the other problems is causes – even for us who do not drink.

Don’t need to start an ANTI-Alchol Party. There is already one – called the Prohibition Party, organized in 1869. Why not check our their website. You might find it interesting and not INSANITY. http://www.prohibitionparty.org
