In This Year’s Tucson Mayor’s Election, Green Party is the Only Party with a Choice on its Primary Ballot

Tucson, Arizona, has partisan city elections, and this article explains that in the upcoming primary, the Green Party is the only party with more than one choice on its primary ballot for Mayor. No Republicans appear on the Republican primary ballot, and only one Democrat appears on the Democratic primary ballot. Although the Libertarian Party is a qualified party in Arizona, it is not a qualified party within Tucson because its registration is not at least two-thirds of 1% within Tucson, so there is no Libertarian primary ballot. 2. I was born in Tucson and it is a great South West city –Very complex and diverse in terms of racial/ethnic culture, faith, life-stle, politics, gender-affinity orientation.

I am not sure I am a huge fan of party/partisan local elections, but it is no surprise that a third party like the Greens have an active presence in the city.

This makes it very hard to get a competitve Republican or a Libertarian in Tucson local races. It is generally a conservative State, Barry Goldwater and John Mccain land, but tucson is unique, more Progressive/Greenish.

With the AZ Libertarians you have deep internal conflict, the party split into two factions during a past presidential race. The the state Lib party has other problems

For better or for the worse, something like ‘open immigration’ might not play well with some voters in Arizona. Their is a very, very culturally-socially conservative segment of the State.
