Horrible New York Ballot Design Illustrated

As reported previously, on September 13, New York held a special election for U.S. House, 9th district, with three candidates on the ballot. The only person running who wasn’t a Republican or a Democrat was Chris Hoeppner, the Socialist Workers nominee. He only received one-fifth of 1% of the total vote. This copy of the ballot shows why. Hoeppner was on a lower line than the other candidates. Even the write-in space, and a blank space for a Green Party nominee (if there had been one, which there wasn’t) were on the top line. An ordinary person would not perceive that Hoeppner was running in the U.S. House race.

Is a Const Amdt now needed even for ballot designs — to STOP the EVIL robot party hacks in some EVIL State regimes ???

  2. Good or bad, this is how the NY ballot is constructed. Your position is determined on how many votes your party got in the last Governor election. But I agree that with only three candidates the ballot could have been done differently.

  4. # 4 How about pick a language ballot — in the absence of rigged E-voting machines with the ballot language ALL in ONE language only — chosen by the voter ???

  5. So, a ballot like this couldn’t be used?

    () Obama Democratic
    () Obama Working Families
    () McCain Republican
    () McCain Conservative
    () Barr Libertarian
    () Nader Independence

  6. # 7 Different language ballots in different gerrymander precincts — based on the 2000 or 2010 gerrymander Census apparently.

A United Nations of language CHAOS in New York City especially — to be politically correct of course.

  7. – and where in Strunk’s (see trial court transcript see below) Brooklyn is offered the politically correct russian language ballot?

  8. New York City election law requires Chinese and other languages. The rest of the state does not. That is why we have two different vendors optical scanners. Only one vendor in the purchase process was able to add these languages and keep the cost within specs.

  9. #10 Both ballots were supposedly from Queens. Does the NYCBOE use different vendors in different precincts?

Richard Winger? Do you know why the two ballots are different?

  10. #13 – There was 1 election but Congrssional District 9 covers 3 different areas. Some are all in Brooklyn voting election disticts, some are all in Queens voting election districts, and some cross-over both boroughs’ election districts. In New York City, all parts of the 5 boroughs use the same optical scanners by the ES&S called DS2000 Ballot Scanners and a version for handicap voters.

  11. @9 thru 11

It appears to be some kind of birther “stuff”….Ya takoyu khernyu ne chetayu, but I did a text search for “Russian” and both links came up empty.

  12. #13 and #14, the second photo of the ballot included an election for the State Assembly, while the first had only the Congressional race, right? Does that account for the difference, that part of the congressional district also had a special election for the Assembly?
