Doyle McManus Op-Ed on Americans Elect in Los Angeles Times

Doyle McManus has this fairly lengthy op-ed about Americans Elect in the Los Angeles Times. Although there is not a great deal of new information in the piece, it does have a more expanded list of potential presidential candidates that Americans Elect might possibly nominate. Also, at the end, it suggests that Americans Elect might very well jump into congressional races in 2014.

  1. If AE jumps in to congressional races in 2014, doesn’t that assume that the pres candidate will get a good percentage in the various states where it would be on the ballot to keep that access? In states like Montana, their candidate would have to achieve some 17,000 votes to keep its access, something Ron Paul couldn’t do in 2008 in Montana.

  2. RJ,

Ron Paul was put on the ballot in Montana by the Constitution Party in 2008. Paul didn’t seek their nomination and, in fact, requested to be removed from the ballot line under the Constitution Party.

More importantly he did not actively campaign in the general election.

AE in 2012 would be a different bird altogether.
