Mississippi Election Returns for Reform Party Apparently Unreported by Any News Source

On November 8, Mississippi voters elected their state officers. The Reform Party had nominees for statewide office in five races: Lieutenant Governor, Auditor, Treasurer, Agriculture Commissioner, and Insurance Commissioner. No news source on the internet appears to have any report of the votes cast in these races. The Secretary of State’s web page does not yet have any election returns. In two of those statewide races, the Reform Party nominee was the only opponent to the Republican nominee. If any reader finds any Mississippi election returns for the lesser statewide offices, please add a comment.

  1. This article has some election results.

    Here are some quotes:

“Republican Lynn Fitch, executive director of the State Personnel Board, received 60 percent of the vote in appearing to defeat Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran, a Democrat, according to partial results. Moran collected 37 percent, and Reform Party candidate Shawn O’Hara of Hattiesburg, 3 percent, in the race to succeed Tate Reeves as state treasurer.”

“Republican state Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Brookhaven handily defeated Pickens Mayor Joel Gill, a Democrat, and Reform Party candidate Cathy Toole of Biloxi in the race to succeed Agriculture Commissioner Lester Spell, who is retiring after four terms.

“Hyde-Smith held a 58-39 percent lead over Gill with 2 percent of the vote going to Toole.

“Republican Mike Chaney was re-elected to a second term as insurance commissioner with 63 percent of the vote according to incomplete results. He defeated Democrat Louis Fondren, who collected 34 percent of the vote, and Reform Party candidate Barbara Washer who received 3 percent of the vote.”

  2. Notice how the Commercial Appeal article cited in comment #2 studiously avoids mentioning any results in the two races in which the Reform Party nominee was the only opponent to the Republican nominee. Those two races are Lieutenant Governor and Auditor. I have a hunch that the news media didn’t even bother to collect the votes cast in those two races.
