Pennsylvania 2012 Statewide Minor Party & Independent Petition Likely to be 21,500 signatures

The number of signatures for a statewide minor party or independent candidatea in Pennsylvania in 2012 is likely to be approximately 21,500 signatures. The number is determined by calculating 2% of the vote cast on November 8, 2011, for David Wecht for Superior Court Judge. With 99% of the precincts reporting, Wecht has 1,017,499 votes. Besides the missing 1% of the precincts, his total will probably also rise when provisional ballots are tallied.

  2. The signatures are due August 1, 2012. The start date is in mid-February 2012. Pennsylvania law allows presidential and vice-presidential stand-ins, and the Libertarian Party used stand-ins in 2008.

  3. And the PA Constitution Party has scheduled our 2012 State Convention for, I believe, February 11 to get a fast start preparing for the petitioning season which starts a few days later. In past years we have been a little bit slow out of the gate–not really even starting until late March or April– and it bit us in the butt in 2008. We are going to take advantage of every day this time, which will no doubt reauire utilizing stand ins until our National Convention in April. We will be starting much earlier and should be much better organized so…fingers are crossed to regain ballot access in PA for the Constitution Party.
