Americans Elect Postpones its First Round of Voting by a Week

The Americans Elect web page has this brief announcement that the May 8 round of voting for a presidential candidate will not take place. Instead the first vote will be on May 15. This postponement is because no candidate, neither a declared candidate nor a draft candidate, received enough clicks to qualify.

Clicks that have already been cast will continue to count for the May 15 vote.

  1. Do they just want to keep people out so only people they want to run get a chance to?

  2. #2 TaVe: The people whom the AE leaders probably want to run aren’t close to qualifying either. In fact, nobody is even halfway to having the required number of clicks.

  3. Mike: Under current rules, to qualify for the AE primary ballot, a candidate needs to get at least 1,000 clicks from each of 10 states. Candidates typically have been getting about half their clicks from their 10 best states and about half from the remaining states.

As of this writing, only 4,538 of Paul’s clicks come from his 10 best states. Or, to look at it another way, in his 10th best state, Virginia, he has 289 clicks, so he is only about 29% of the way toward qualifying.

  4. If you want someone to vote for got to the website and click Scott Keller. Go to his website to see where he stands on the issues and you can go to AE and support him there also. http://keller2012.com/

  5. It appears unlikely that any candidate will qualify for the AE “online caucus” based on the pace of activity, even if the deadline is extended again. Richard, what is your opinion on how this process will be resolved?
