Alabama Legislative Session Ends; Ballot Access Reform Fails to Pass

On May 16, the Alabama legislative session ended. SB 15, the ballot access reform bill, did not pass. The bill made more progress this year than it ever has before. It passed the Senate overwhelmingly and the House committee unanimously. But it never got a House vote.

The legislature is now in a special session, but no bills can be dealt with in the special session that were not named on the Governor’s list, unless the bill sponsor gets unanimous consent to introduce it.

  1. Last night Cam Wards heroic Ballot Access Bill SB-15 died never reaching the floor of the Alabama House for a vote before the session ended at midnight.
Today it seemed as if SB-15 suddenly turned into a Halloween like Jackolantern of tricks when Scott Beason dropped Alabama GOP Chairman Bill Armistead’s Party Registration Bill into the Special Session. To add insult to injury this new Bill is now in committee and is listed as get this guys SB 15!
To those who have been with us in this fight for free and fair access to the Ballot in Alabama be aware that Senator Wards SB-15 is now dead and has been replaced with a new SB-15 from Mr. Beason that if passed nails the electorate of Alabama into a full Party Registration Oligarchic System of fascism. Folks this was no accident and we the citizens of Alabama have been betrayed!
