1. It is true.

   Some of us are working on a series of debates between Dr. Jill Stein, Green Party, and the other two to begin as soon as possible.

2. I think it may be a mistake to do this before the Commission for Presidential Debates has announced the participants of the October debates.

   If any minor parties have a debate they should make it a point to really attack one another, and not just have a panel discussion.

3. I in one sense agree wit #2. Seeing how their is virtually no difference in the two major party nominees I think their would be a increased audience for the minor party debates. They should be more entertaining then Obama vs Romney.

5. What is to be accomplished – except for the entertainment and enlightenment of a few – if Gary Johnson and Virgil Goode debate? Unless the debate is carried on nationwide television (which we know it is not), no one, except for their handful of core supporters, will know about it or what they said in the debate.

6. Cool. They should invite Jill Stein as well, and then put up podiums for Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, and have people in chicken costumes standing in for Obama and Romney since they will both be too chicken to show up to a debate like this.

10. Cspan likely would carry it as they did in 08. Other then Cspan I doubt anyone else would be willing to help host it.

11. I was going to point out that CSPAN held debates between Baldwin, Nader, McKinney, etc. at least twice in ’08. I think we need to wait and see what the commission does first, as I do not see any real benefit to being in a debate limited to CSPAN.

14. I can already tell you which presidential candidates the Commission will invite to participate in the October debates: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, and nobody else.

    I can’t imagine any circumstance under which Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, or Virgil Goode will reach the average poll numbers needed for the Commission to allow them into the debates. A candidate needs to average 15% in five nationwide polls to get into the Commission debates. Johnson, Stein, and Goode are nowhere near that.

15. The point of a series of presidential debates between the Green Party’s Dr. Jill Stein and the other two is simple and effective. You must feed the mainstream media beast, what it can digest. It can process and profit from these Green series of debates.

    The more debates Dr. Stein, Green Party, and the other two do, the more noise they make. The more media they attract.

    They could even do these on the evening newscasts live in major media markets. Say 4 debates in August, September, and October. A total of 12. New York, L.A., San Francisco, Washington D.C. Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Denver, Boston, Phoenix…and more if big local TV stations will host.

16. I wish the first ‘major’ debate would be open to any presidential candidate on enough ballots to theoretically win the electoral college. As this number is usually only 4-6, no one can really argue this would confuse voters or muddle the field when up to 8 candidates appeared on stage for the Republican debates. If they want to restrict the field after the first debate with a polling requirement, fine, but at least have one “open” debate to let the American people see the faces of their choices (& without giving two candidates two thirds of the questions!)

    Anyway, whether GJ will appear in any ‘major’ debates or make a big impact is pretty much up to Peter Thiel, sadly. In any case, any minor party candidates would be entertaining to watch in any debate!
