Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, and Virgil Goode Will Debate Each Other on October 23 in Chicago

Published on September 19, 2012, by in General.

On September 19, Free & Equal announced that Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, and Virgil Goode have each agreed to participate in a presidential debate on October 23, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. central time. Free & Equal is sponsoring the debate. The Republican and Democratic nominees are also invited but it is very likely they will not attend. The last debate between the Democratic and Republican nominees will have been on October 22.

Free & Equal invited every candidate who was either on the ballot in states containing a majority of the electoral vote, or who have registered at 1% in a national opinion poll.

The event will be at the University Club of Chicago.

WELL AT LEAST WE WILL HAVE ONE DEBATE THAT
THE CANDIDATES WILL DISCUSS THE ISSUSES

Why would you care? You said you were voting for Romney.

Free and Equal’s model should be followed for all televised debates. It is fair, inclusive, and puts down reasonable standards to acheive.

I hope they spend the time actually debating each other rather than only talking about things they agree on attacking Obama and Romney.

  5. I am looking forward to watching this debate. Although I have publicly endorsed Dr. Jill Stein and her running mate Cheri Honkala, I have the greatest respect for former Gov. Gary Johnson and former U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode. They are both outstanding spokesmen for their parties and political philosophies. It should be a great debate.

I wonder if we will be able to watch the debate online? I would be interested in hearing it. Richard could you find out if it will be broadcast online? I would like to know.

  7. Lets push pbs, npr, cnn, abc, cbs, fox, msnbc and others to cover the debate.

#7: C-Span typically covers these sorts of events. I expect they will again.

  11. I hope all three will focus on the two major party players and not each other. Debating over which one will finish third is not going to accomplish much.

  12. @9: C-span2 will cover it, but that will only reach a fraction of just one networks audience. The four cpd debates will be covered by two or three networks in addition to c-span. We need to clamor for fair coverage by the same networks and/or others. PBS and NPR should be particularly shamed for their bias.

  13. @12: I hope that they will each focus on their own vision, and leave the other two to tear each other down. Negative campaigning is effective in keeping people from voting for your opponent but it does not build support for your campaign. In a multi-party race it can cost the attacker as many votes as the target.

It’s not “free and equal” without Rocky Anderson and Stewart Alexander (SP USA) being included. I don’t support either one but they deserve a voice as well.. especially with Goode, Johnson and Stein on the stage.
