DemocracyNow “Expands” the Commission on Presidential Debates Again; This Time Virgil Goode Also Participates with Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson

DemocracyNow! and its hostess, Amy Goodman, again covered a Commission on Presidential Debates event by letting some minor party presidential candidates answer the same questions that the two major party nominees answered. This is the second time DemocracyNow! has done this. The first time, Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson participated. On October 17, they were joined by Virgil Goode. See this link.

  1. On the other hand Johnson will be in the IVN debate tomorrow and the Free and Equal debate on 10/23 moderated by Larry King, so that’s to the good.

  2. Still excluding the non-capitalist parties like the SPUSA, PSL, FSP, SWP, P&FP etc.

  3. Nothing prevents anyone from setting up a debate and inviting the presidential candidates of the parties that hold themselves out as socialist. I would love to see a debate between the presidential candidates of the Socialist Party, the Socialist Workers Party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Freedom Socialist Party, and the Socialist Equality Party.

  4. #4: Jill Stein is center-left at best, and Rocky Anderson ends up being center-right if you take a look at his economics and compare it to others.

#6: I would love to see that debate as well (though the Peace and Freedom debates gave a glimpse). My point is that Democracy Now, even after including three alternative candidates, they are still excluding more then they are including, as well as choosing to exclude all left-wing candidates. At least from where I’m sitting, it comes off as bias in favor of the Green Party, considering they are the furthest left of the three parties included, and therefore is not challenged by any actual left-wing parties or candidates.
