ProPublica Story on How Pro-Democratic Groups Made Independent Expenditures to Boost Libertarian in Montana U.S. Senate Race

ProPublica has this story about groups that wanted to help Montana U.S. Senator Jon Tester get re-elected in November 2012. So, they made independent expenditures in favor of the Libertarian in the race, Dan Cox.

The story is not completely accurate; it says that the Libertarian nominee for U.S. Senate received more votes than any other Libertarian in the 2012 election, but actually the Libertarian running for Clerk of the Montana Supreme Court received more votes than Cox did.

One wonders why Montana Republicans, who have majorities in both houses of the state legislature, don’t introduce a bill for Ranked Choice Voting, or Approval Voting. Thanks to Rick Hasen for the link.

  1. How many New Age Donkeys are Stalin clone Communists and New Age Elephants are Hitler clone Fascists in the Congress, ALL State legislatures (and ALL local govts) due to pack / crack gerrymander areas ???

i.e. which EVIL moron will shoot off its EVIL mouth and have things really happen ???

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  2. Senator Jon Tester said he wanted to repeal Citizens United, in name only as Tester supported all that extra money coming into Montana to help his campaign. I wonder how many votes the late Larry Dodge of Montana would gotten had he been running as a Libertarian in this race. In 1988, I think, Dodges campaign theme was paddle your own, and Dodge had quite a bit of PR for the (Approx) 16,000 votes he received that year. Larry Dodge was one of the founding fathers of FIJA.
