Independent Green Party Launches Petition to Place Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor on Ballot as Independent Candidate

Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling has said he will announce on March 14 whether to run as an independent candidate for Governor of Virginia this year. Meanwhile, the Independent Green Party is already circulating an independent petition with Bolling’s name on it, so that if he does run, he will have the advantage of the signatures collected by the party. Here is the party’s web page for the “Draft” effort, including a link to a petition form.

  1. Nice job to the IGP thinking ahead like that! No harm done if he doesn’t run as an indy, but everything gained if he does!

  2. Wouldn’t this petition mean that he’d have to run under the Independent Green Party’s label? If so, what if he does not want to run under the Independent Green Party’s label?

  3. #2, no, in Virginia, the petition doesn’t mention the ballot label. After the petition is turned in, if it is valid, an unqualified party recognized by the state as having filed a list of its officers is free to send in a document saying the petitioning candidate is that group’s nominee. If the candidate goes along with it, then the group’s name gets on the ballot. Of course in this case Lt. Gov. will just want “independent” as a label and the Indp Green Party knows that but they still want to help him.

As a member of the Independent Green Party of Virginia I assure you we want Bolling to run as Independent Green Party candidate. Although we have been collecting signatures since January…if he doesn’t run as Independent Green Party candidate…less signatures will be collected.

Independent Green Party leaders are very serious about Bill Bolling as their Independent Green Party candidate for Governor. Led by the Indy Green Party state Vice Chair, Gail for Rail Parker, and Denny McKell, (Gail for Rail and McKell are both U.S. Air Force retirees) Indy Greens formed a political action committee (PAC). Now the Independent Green Party team has a Draft Bill Bolling web site. http://www.draftbill.org/

The Independent Green Party group is also sending out a series of video press releases urging Bill Bolling to run for Governor as Independent Green Party candidate. The Independent Green Party’s Denny McKell is a retired TV and radio producer, and newsman. McKell produced the video press releases for his Independent Green Party.

“We need ‘More Trains, Less Traffic!” says Gail for Rail Parker, the retired U.S. Air Force officer.

“An alliance with the Independent Green Party of Virginia and Bill Bolling as our Indy Green candidate for Governor can provide positive pro-business, and pro-rail policy to grow the economy and create sustainable rail, solar, wind, and geothermal energy jobs.” Gail for Rail Parker has been on the ballot as an Indy Green Party rail advocate for each of the last 8 years. Twice Gail for Rail has been on the ballot statewide. The Independent Greens are Virginia’s most successful on ballot third party in Virginia in a century.

The Independent Green Party is recruiting candidates for House of Delegates across Virginia. Indy Greens hope to run a full slate of 100 House of Delegates candidates this year.

An alliance between Bill Bolling and the Independent Greens makes sense. The Indy Green Party has a proven record of collecting thousands of petition signatures across Virginia every year. Bolling will need 10,000 valid signatures to get on the ballot. That means Indy Greens would need to collect 20,000 signatures for Bolling. Some Independent Greens started collecting signatures in January.
