Newsday Editorial Asks for Ballot Access Reform, Other Election Law Reforms, for New York

Newsday has this April 5 editorial, calling on the New York state legislature to ease ballot access restrictions, and to ease restrictions on voters who wish to change political party affiliation. Newsday is the dominant daily newspaper on Long Island’s suburban counties.

  1. the teachers union supposedly controls NewsDay and of course controls WFP and certain factions of IPNY and GP (and of course the Dems)

The Albany Times Union also editorialized today in favor of ending “Fusion” politics in New York, which would almost certainly end the ballot status of the Independence (Reform) Party and the Working Families Party. The Conservatives have a large membership and the Greens appear to have enough popular support to reach the 50,000 vote minimum in a gubernatorial race (next year). It must be said here though that the end of fusion is not likely to happen as long as the Dems control the State Assembly.
