President Obama Mentions Green and Libertarian Parties in Georgetown University Speech

On June 25, President Obama gave a speech outdoors at Georgetown University, on the subject of climate change. Near the end of the speech, at 52 minutes and 44 seconds, he said he is “willing to work with anybody, Democrats, Republicans, independents, Greens, Libertarians, anybody.” As far as is known, this is the first time President Obama, since he has been president or even since he first became a presidential candidate, has publicly mentioned those political parties. Thanks to David Curtis for this news. Curtis watched the speech live on-line and wrote down that sentence. It takes a few days for presidential speech texts to appear on the whitehouse.gov web page.

  1. What ??? NO mention of the communists and socialists (included in *Democrats*) ???

What about the BARBARIANS in Afghanistan and Pakistan burning wood, etc. to keep warm in those cold mountains ???

i.e. Does O. love everybody – as long as they OBEY O. ???

  2. I also helped break this in the GPUS Facebook group. I’m glad the remark is getting the attention it deserves. We need to run with this.

  3. Is the sky falling or something? Did Yellowstone erupt? Is the world really coming to an end?
…Never did I actually think I’d hear any major party politician acknowledge minor parties like that (outside of a debate or a “spoiler theory” attack ad). I agree with Kris Smoot, we need to hit the Democratic Party with this. If Obama’s willing to work with us, why not other members of his party?

  4. I mentioned the Democrats because we (the Green Party) had a bad experience with a “spoiler theory” attack ad last fall in the Congressional district that I live in. Now we have something to push back with.
