Virginia State Senate Special Election is a Virtual Tie

Virginia held a special State Senate election on November 7. The vast majority of votes have been counted. The results: Lewis, Democrat, 10,197; Coleman, Republican, 10,175, and 8 write-ins. See this story. The State Senate is tied, with the Democratic Lieutenant Governor breaking the tie. If Republicans could win this election, then they could organize the State Senate.

  1. I hate to sound picky, but aren’t ties consisting of exact vote totals between two names/items?

To paint elections with different vote totals as a tie is injecting personal bias.

With all due respect, principles of democracy require that a one vote difference to NOT be a tie. To paint this as a virtual tie is demonstrating a lack of interest in basic democratic principles.

Come off and don’t lose your gasket dude.

    • People find unity based on math.

Many people will agree that 1 + 1 = 2 and that one vote breaks a tie.

There are those who will write that 1 + 1 does not = 2 and that one vote does not break a tie.

Those who argue that 1 + 1 does not equal 2 or that one vote does not break a tie are free to write of say that, and I’m a big believer of free speech.

However, when 100% consensus can’t be reach on such simple mathematics and democratic principles, the highest percentage of agreement will determine a majority.

Do not make claims to be an expert when your motives and actions are simply designed disrupt unity and create conflict for your own personal goals.

The author of this story should look at improving himself before injecting some rhetorical biased information.

Disorder and distractions within the team cause harm like a blown gasket when the finish line is fair elections.

No I just think you are nuts. He was just providing info to us saying that the senate is basically tied in terms of seats previously-held and held. We will wait to see what the results will be.

Now showing 10,190 for Coleman, 10,200 for Lewis, 8 write-in, so a 10 vote margin.
