On August 26, the Arizona Green Party filed this opening brief in Arizona Green Party v Bennett, 14-15976 in the Ninth Circuit. The issue is the state’s February petition deadline for newly-qualifying parties. The U.S. District Court had upheld the deadline.

In Tuesday’s Arizona primary, Barry Hess again won the nomination of the Libertarian party for Governor. He received 75% of the vote, with the rest going to unregistered write-in candidates (whose votes won’t be counted).
J.L. Mealer won the nomination of the Americans Elect party for Governor with 60% of the vote; he carried 10 of the 15 counties. Janelle Wood had filed as a write-in candidate, though votes for write-in candidates have not yet been totally counted.
Since Americans Elect write-in candidates who filed running unopposed need only a plurality of the votes to win their primaries, expect to hear soon that Stephen Dolgos will again be the Americans Elect candidate in the 8th Congressional District (where there is no Democrat running against incumbent Republican Trent Franks) and that Rebecca DeWitt will be the Americans Elect nominee in the 7th Congressional District (where there is no Republican running against Democrat Ruben Gallego).
Also, Kelly Gneiting was an Americans Elect write-in candidate for the Arizona State Senate in District 7 and Suzie Easter was an Americans Elect write-in candidate for the Arizona State House of Representatives in District 22.
So it’s probable that there will be five Americans Elect party candidates on the ballot in Arizona in November.
