Challenge Filed in New York for the “Rent is 2 Damn High” Petition for Governor — 4 Comments

  1. Damn the Greens for doing this nasty thing! The person filing the objection is a former state official for the party, and Howie refused to speak directly to the issue of whether this should have been done at all. What a bureaucratic response!

  2. Posted by the Howie Hawkins campaign on his Facebook page.

“Hawkins is set to appear on the ballot because he gained more than 50,000 votes in the gubernatorial election last year; the independent candidates still could face a legal challenge that could knock them off the ballot.” Don’t let this happen! Every party deserves a voice

  3. Stupid! Just stupid! This is somewhat similar to what happened in Illinois in 2012. At least in Illinois there were PLENTY of Greens who disagreed with the person who filed the challenges (practically turned out to be a Chicago vs downstate affair, with the Chicago Greens for the challenge, and the downstate Greens against it).
I think our failure to get our state slate on the ballot this year emanated from that challenge’s bad karma (luck, curse, jinx, etc et al you get the idea). Howie needs to reaffirm that he and the rest of the NY party believe in fair ballot access for all candidates and have that person drop the challenge, ASAP, before the bad karma from acting like Democrats hits the NY Green Party too. At this rate we’ll end up both further weakening the prospects for election reform and destroying our party.

  4. Joshua,

If there was a like button I would have pressed it, but that’s how I feel too. And I remember that awful Illinois action as well.
Don’t hold your breath for the Hawkins campaign to come clean. They (he?) were almost certainly complicit here.
