South Dakota’s Largest Newspaper Carries Op-Ed for Ranked-Choice Voting — 6 Comments

  1. Instant runoff voting (IRV) in single-winner districts, like Top Two, guarantees that the biggest winner must garner 50% plus one. The Libertarian Party of California uses IRV to elect their chair.

Fortunately, the USA Parliament had it right when we elected our first multi-party 100-committee in 1995.

Ralph Nader accepted the nomination on our ballot a good six months for his candidacy was announced in BAN.

Now California is using Top Two which is is a similar version of RCV, but using Xs instead of numerals.

Perhaps they should consider Top Two, since it’s much less complicated for people to understand Xs than numerals when voting?

  2. And I see Rob Richie’s name is mentioned in the article. He’s been promoting IRV (instant runoff voting) in single-winner districts for twenty years.

The article also speaks favorably of Top Two. But the big problem is that there is confusion with Rob Richie’s work of twenty years for single-winner ranked voting (IRV) and now his recent use of the word RCV (ranked choice voting). We really can’t distinguish in the article if he’s favoring RCV in single-winner or multi-winner districts.

That’s a big problem that isn’t being addressed. We can only look at the track record of FairVote and see how wrong they’ve been for twenty years. I’m not yet convinced that he’s not promoting the single-winner election systems they’ve been pushing for so long which damage competition and actually cement the two-party system much to our dismay.

  3. Hopefully, us Greens, Libertarians and other small splinter groups and parties in the 9th USA Parliament will look in the mirror and try diligently to correct our own internal voting problems so we can start to synchronize, cooperate and address these issues as one legitimately elected team.

Look at our own team first and practice, practice, practice…repetition, repetition, repetition…the team, the team, the team.

  4. Attention IRV math MORONS —
    IRV is F-A-T-A-L.

The muddled Middle is divided – as usual.

Extremists are on the march – as usual.

    34 L–M–R
    33 R–M–L
    16 M–L–R
    16 M–R–L

    99

    With IRV, M loses.
    L beat R 50-49.

    M – George Washington, L – the killer Stalin, R – the killer Hitler.

M happens to have a mere 99 of 99 votes in 1st and 2nd place.
Means NOTHING to the IRV math MORONS from Hell —
who can NOT be educated about the INSANITY of IRV.
    —–
Pending Condorcet head to head math –

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  5. That’s correct, Demo Rep. Yet these aloof snobs continue to push IRV decade after decade!

Top Two is almost the same as IRV except in IRV the single-transferable vote (STV) is used so IRV is a little bit more advanced than Top Two.

Both Top Two and IRV are single-winner election systems which cement the power of a two-party system and should be avoided at all cost, should we be interested in nurturing competitive, free and equal elections.

Over the past 19 years the USA Parliament has been demonstrating the use of the Sainte-Lague parliament seat distribution system, ranked choice voting (RCV), Hagenbach-Bischoff method in multi-winner districts of two or more.

Other political entities can’t even return a phone call because of their single-winner internal elections which create a “circle the wagons”, us vs them mentality, instead of unity for the good of the whole.

  6. An Invitation For YOU!

For nineteen consecutive years, the USA Parliament has been inviting and welcoming ALL voters to participate on the all party (and independents) voting system.

Three years after we announced the election of our 100 elected founders on August 6th 1995, Google Inc. derived their name from my initials (joogle) in October of 1997 and because of that moment in time they misspelled the word googol (see references: (http://usparliament.org/how-google-got-its-name.php).

But Google Inc. soon turned all search traffic away from our site.

But we at the USA Parliament have continued to build unity despite the costs and the odds against us. To a large extent our invitations have usually been answered with vile rebuffs and hostile replies.

    All is forgiven.

We always do and we still do welcome all.

Unlike all those whom we’ve invited over the past two decades who’ve declined our overtures, no person has ever been denied participation or removed against their wishes from the USA Parliament.

Every vote has been recorded and counted correctly and stacks of paper ballots kept as proof have been compiled to the fullest extent possible despite horrendous hardships; evictions, being hunted by organized crime, physical intimidation, automatic and semi-automatic gunshots and even the insanity of premeditated murder.

But through all that we’re still here and continuing this story without interruption.

On Wednesday November 5th, the USA Parliament enters a new phase which continues through December 31st 2014. It’s a phase of conciliation, repair and constructive growth.

We ask everyone to consider the work we’ve done and to join us during this period. Every second and every minute of the day is crucial and there’s no time to waste.

I’ll be phoning every member of the United Coalition to generate much needed support. If I don’t invite you, and you’d like to be a team player on the Unity Coalition, then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Jim Doyle [Republican] or myself will be sure to add your name for a role that you request. We’re able to operate from the safety of online voting.

We’re a lot like Burger King, it’s; “Have it YOUR way!”

    Very truly yours,
    James Ogle [Free Parliamentary]
