John Myers Analyzes the Upcoming U.S. Supreme Court Argument on Whether Independent Congressional Redistricting Commissions Violate Article One of the U.S. Constitution

John Myers of California public broadcasting has this clear and interesting article about the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court oral argument in Arizona State Legislature v Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission. This is the case over whether Article One mandates that only state legislatures, and not other state agencies, can draw U.S. House district boundaries. Thanks to AroundtheCapitol for the link.

John Myers Analyzes the Upcoming U.S. Supreme Court Argument on Whether Independent Congressional Redistricting Commissions Violate Article One of the U.S. Constitution — 3 Comments

  1. What genius PBS person can detect that ALL of the govts in the USA are —

EVIL and VICIOUS ANTI-Democracy minority rule gerrymander regimes —

ALL 99 houses of ALL 50 States.
Both houses of the USA Congress.
Many local regimes in whole or part.

    1/2 votes x 1/2 pack/crack gerrymander areas = 1/4 CONTROL.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  2. Arguing against independent commissions drawing lines is not arguing for political gerrymandering. Independent agencies are often trumpeted as some sort of panacea; until they run amok. And they do. The examples are legion. Accountability is the key, and that is why elected officials should be responsible for drawing the lines.
