Vermont Newspaper Discusses Bill to Set Vermont’s Presidential Primary on Same Day as New Hampshire’s Primary — 3 Comments

  1. I hope the State of Vermont will stick to their guns and hold their Presidential Preference Primary on the same day that New Hampshire has had theirs.

I believe in states’ rights, but at the same time, I don’t know who New Hampshire think they are in telling another state they cannot hold a primary on the same day.

The DNC has threatened to not seat delegates from a state that defies their order to not hold a primary on the same day. Vermont has so few delegates, then what difference does it make. The People of Vermont should tell the DNC to take your delegates and do with them what I will not speak of here in this reply.

The State of Vermont – or any state – should have its primary on any day it desires – even if it is the same date the New Hampshire hold theirs. It’s time we stop one state from having the ability to give a candidate a break or kill his or her chances for election.

I say, go for it Vermont, and stick to your guns!

  2. As I understand the New Hampshire law, saying that it will hold its Presidential Preference Primary 7 days before the date of any other presidential primary. The Vermont Legislature should use the exact same language.

Then, I’m sure this will go to the Supreme Court, and I can’t see the Court showing preference toward one state – especially when no ones constitutional rights are denied – other than the feelings of the politicians in New Hampshire who think they and they alone should be the 1st presidential nomination in the nation.

Maybe this will then lead to a nationwide presidential preference, which is what we need in the first place. Most states have easier requirements for candidates to qualify for a presidential presidential primary.

3rd parties which have given up on having presidential tickets, may then have to allow their nominees to qualify in the presidential primaries, and would at least get some publicity.

We could already see how this might work in 2016. Since no prominent Democrat is going to qualify in New Hampshire, a 3rd party should allow its nominee to qualify. We’d be surprised as to how many votes they would receive.

Richard, what is the qualification requirement to get on the New Hampshire Presidential Primary? Don’t they just pay a simple fee? Are there any signature requirements?
